Stephanie Berkowitz, Owner/Director of Training

Stephanie has been involved in weight training since she was 16 years old and entered her first bodybuilding competition at 18 years old.   In addition to bodybuilding and fitness, Stephanie has had a long sports career, lettering in 3 sports in High School, running Track and Field and Cross country at Shasta College, and competing in Track and Field at Chico State as a triple jumper, long jumper, 4X100 and 4X400 sprinter.  While at Shasta College, Stephanie qualified for the State Track and Field Meet in triple jump and 4x400.  At Chico State, Stephanie is still a top ten triple jump record holder.  
Stephanie has been working in the fitness industry for over 20 years.  In this time, she has become one of the top trainers in her field and has been an industry leader in group training.  Known for her expertise in strength training and bootcamp style group exercise, Stephanie has a passion for helping students of all fitness levels reach their goals.  

Stephanie is the mother of 5 (Savannah 15, Laney 13, Blake 11, Faylinn 10, and Aryah 7) and is married to Jay Berkowitz.  In addition to teaching classes and operating the Berkowitz Fitness studio, she has a passion for Cycling and Triathloning.  She currently competes locally in both sports.

Jay Berkowitz, Owner/Manager

Jay played Division I college golf at the University of California at Berkeley under the tutelage of Hall of Fame coach, Steve Desimone.  As a Golden Bear, Jay was team captain, number one player, and "All-Pac 10 Team" athlete for the nationally ranked Cal men’s golf team. Jay competed in the National Championship with the Golden Bears in 1998.  Overall, he posted 12 top 10 performances, including a personal best second-place finish at the Western Intercollegiate before graduating in 1999.  Jay also appeared in two U.S. Amateurs and one Public Links Championship.
After college, he immediately began his teaching and coaching career.  Jay became the Assistant Golf Coach for both the Men’s and Women's golf teams at the University of California at Berkeley for three seasons.  He recruited and developed the 2004 Men’s Division I National Championship team, and the 2004 Women’s Individual Champion, Sara Huerte and 2003 Pac 10 Champion Vikki Laing.
He has worked with numerous top amateurs, nationally ranked juniors, Division I college standouts, as well as players from the PGA, European, Nationwide, and Canadian tours.  Some of these players include Han Lee, James Hahn, Dong Yi, Robert Hamilton, Peter Tomasulo, and Vikki Laing.
After moving to Chico in 2005, Jay was hired as the Assistant Coach of the Chico State Men’s and Women’s teams for two seasons and worked with several top Division II players at that time.  Jay is currently the Director of Instruction at Tuscan Ridge Golf Club and recently joined the PGA Tour Academies family and directs the PGA Tour Academies’ junior golf camp in Monterey, CA.
